Friends and Cake Lovers, I have bittersweet news: I am hanging up my apron. After a dozen years and more than 3,500 cakes baked, delivered, and enjoyed, the time has come for a new adventure for Val.

As many of you know, in the late Spring my mom’s health went into jeopardy. I had to go from full-time Cake Lady to full-time loving caregiver. I am truly grateful for the understanding and support I received during this time even as my cake baking slowed. But as my mom’s health scare dissipated, so did my passion for baking. I cannot explain why, but my love for baking cakes days, nights, and weekends had left the kitchen.

I finally realized I had to say goodbye to something that has brought me years of joy, passion, and purpose. But I am thrilled with the possibilities of tomorrow. I don’t know what’s ahead, but my arms and heart are open to finding some new joy.

Over the years I made mistakes, learned lessons, and polished my cake-making process to a delightful dance of oven joy. I can honestly say that every cake I baked for my Cake Lovers was a pleasure. And I always loved—LOVED--to hear when y’all enjoyed a cake.

Cake Lovers, I can’t thank you enough for the love, support, and enthusiasm you have shown for me and my cakes over the years. You will always hold a special place in my cake-baking heart.
